The Gujarat forest department confirmed the presence of a tiger in the state on Tuesday. Almost 25 years ago; Tiger has been spotted in the forests of Dangs in the southern part of the state. Camera traps installed in the Lunwad-Santrampur forest in Mahisagar captured scene of tiger moving around in forest.
This spot is 500 kms away from the Gir Forest of Gujarat. Forest Ministry said the tiger aged 7 to 8 years and may have been migrated from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Maharashtra. The cameras were insatalled after the allegations of a local teacher that he spotted a tiger.
The Gujarat government is likely to start tiger safaris soon with a tag line, “One state in India to have both tigers and lions”.
