Vijay Mallya has offered to pay back the loan amount but only the principal amount. Mallya owes approximately 12,000 crores with several Indian banks. The fugitive businessman is going to face verdict in UK court for his extradition to India next week. He tweeted that the huge loans he took went towards keeping the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines afloat in the face of high jet fuel prices.
In another tweet, he claimed that United Breweries Group contributed thousands of crores to public coffers for three decades.
Mallya's tweets came hours after Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland helicopter scam, was brought to India for trial.
