In a new RTI revelation; Top IITs Indian Institute of Technology: Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Guwahati, Madras, Kharagpur, Varanasi and Roorkee are facing severe faculty shortage.
Nearly 36% faculty positions are vacant in these top eight IITs which accounts to 2269 vacancies. The student teacher ration this comes to be 16:1 which is poor if we consider other international institutes.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology : 3:1
Stanford Institute : 4:1
It is necessary to cater the problem of faculty shortage as it is also deteriorating the quality of technical education in India.
