In a new TOI survey, it was found that common man pays less taxes on daily use household items after implementation of GST compared to post GST regime.
This survey was done on 88 household items such as TV, Refrigerator, Washing Machine, Napkins and more. On a monthly spend of 8400 INR, people pay a tax of 510 INR compared to 830 INR before GST implementation. This results into a saving of 320 INR.
GST cam into effect from July 2017 which consolidated over 17 different taxes including VAT, Sales Tax in One. It resulted in lowered tax rates on essential items. 99% items were brought down under 18% tax slab and all luxury items were included in 28% slab.
